Chris Shovlin @ The Pro Football Hall of Fame

Always the sports fan and a local history buff to boot, WJAS Afternoon Personality Chris Shovlin recently spent an afternoon at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in nearby Canton, Ohio. It was his first trip to the Hall in about 15 years and he found an amazingly large number of new displays enhancing those old favorites that have graced the landmark for years. Particularly interesting was how many references to Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania there are in Canton. Even though the NFL was born in that city, pro football was actually started here in Western Pennsylvania, in Latrobe. The Steelers are not the only representatives of ours in Canton. There are inductees and displays featuring Pittsburghers who played elsewhere including Johnny Unitas, Dan Marino, Mike Ditka, George Blanda, Tony Dorsett, Joe Namath and others. Chris is a big fan of the old American Football League which was founded in 1960 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary. There's a full display room detailing the history of the AFL and how it was merged into the NFL. Check out Chris' Pro Football Hall of Fame Photo Gallery and see what items of local interest you can find!
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is located just off of Interstate 77 in Canton, Ohio, about 100 miles from Pittsburgh and is open from 9 to 5 daily during the fall, winter, and spring, and from 9 to 8 daily during the summer.
