Harvest Day Celebration

· Villa Maria Community Center - Villa Maria, PA
· Saturday, October 6, 2012 to Sunday, October 7, 2012
· 12pm - 5pm

The Harvest Day Celebration is a 13 year tradition for the Sisters of the Humility of Mary and every year there are new things new things to see and do along with old favorites. This year the 13th Annual Harvest Day Celebration will be held for two days, Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Villa Maria Community Center. The event is fun as well as educational, for people of all ages.

Families will be entertained with hayrides, pumpkin painting, face painting, nature trail walks and tons of other activities. Children are welcome to join in on potato sack and relay races, corn toss or try their climbing skills on a 32 Ft. rock climbing wall. New this year is our Buddy Bumper Balls! Kids step inside this translucent blue ball and they have a blast with this play ball that gets them moving and laughing, bumping and bouncing off each other. Another favorite harvest day activity is creating your own herb vinegar from the Villa’s own fresh herb garden. Additionally guests can also choose chose from a variety of projects in our arts-n-crafts tent.

This year’s live entertainment features two popular regional bands: Rising Regina and The Weathered Road. According to Scott Mervis, music editor for Pittsburgh Post Gazette, “Rising Regina draws comparisons to Nickel Creek in the way it blends folk, bluegrass, pop and Celtic. (The band) called its debut album "Travel Lightly," but judging from the tight playing, divine sibling harmonies, clever songwriting and overall professionalism, this rootsy local group might be on its way to packing heavily -- for extended tours.”

Other Harvest Day attractions include a bake sale featuring all sorts of homemade goodies, gift basket raffles and area artisans that will offer specialized handmade creations. Demonstrations include glass making, wool spinning and basket weaving. In addition, Studio Arts and Glass will be offering special art classes on site that day for a nominal fee. Be sure to visit with live alpacas and see the variety of alpaca-made items for sale.

This year’s festival will host a special one-time performance by One Voice Gospel Choir from Saline, Michigan. One Voice Gospel Choir began as the St. Paul Gospel Choir, based out of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline, Michigan, in 1990 and has grown quickly into a multi-generational, ecumenical, Christ-centered family of singers. The choir will perform during the festival in Magnificat Chapel Saturday, October 6th at 4 p.m.

The Villa Maria Market Barn will be open for purchases of naturally-grown produce, herb crafts, pumpkins, squash and seasonal mums. The Market Barn has all you need to decorate for the season with colorful corn stalks, Indian corn, straw bales and lots of pumpkins.

The festival food menu features signature dishes like Villa Veggie Wraps and Villa Stir Fry made from the Villa Farm’s own freshly harvested vegetables. A new feature dish this year is freshly made vegetable pasta. Other tasty treats include our popular chips and salsa, deep dish caramel apples, hamburgers from our own farm-raised beef and French fries from our potatoes. Sip a nice hot pumpkin coffee or apple cider, and, of course, don’t forget our most popular dish, butternut squash soup which is now available for take home.

Start Christmas shopping early with one-of-a-kind gifts from The Villa Shoppe that support Fair Trade work around the world. New items highlight fall fashion with scarves from India and purses from Brazil made from recycled materials. Procure home décor created recycled magazines and more at unbelievable prices!
