Farmers at Phipps Brings Fresh, Local and Organic Food to the Conservatory’s Historic Green

· Pittsburgh, PA
· Wednesday, June 6, 2012 to Wednesday, October 31, 2012
· 2:30pm-6:30pm

Beginning on June 6, 2012, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will once again present Farmers at Phipps every Wednesday from 2:30-6:30 p.m. through the last week of October. Now in its fourth year, this vibrant farmers’ market on the public garden’s historic and sustainably-managed front lawn brings together community members and organic and Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) food producers for one of the freshest local shopping experiences around town. As an extension of Phipps’ many sustainability and healthy foods initiatives— which include green gardening, landscaping and building practices; environmental outreach programs; Let’s Move Pittsburgh sponsorship; and Green Restaurant Certified® café operation— Farmers at Phipps is one of only a few area farmers’ markets dedicated to offering only organic or CNG products. With these options at their fingertips, shoppers are empowered to make healthier and more planet-friendly choices as they peruse a colorful cornucopia of farm-to-table produce and other goods. Located in Schenley Park, Phipps is easily accessible to Oakland universities, hospitals and businesses, and offers plenty of free parking for patrons. Regional market vendors for 2012 include: • Blackberry Meadows Farm • Church View Farm • Clarion River Organics • Friendship Farms • Green Circle Farm • Mott Family Farm • Pancake Maples • Prospect Meadow Berry Farm • Sunshine Farm • Una Biologicals While visiting the farmers’ market, guests are also encouraged to explore Phipps’ outdoor gardens and sustainable plant beds for free, or purchase tickets to attend Summer Flower Show: Fountains of Youth, which features healing plants, refreshing fountains, and flowers arranged in striking color combinations.
